Sweet & Savory Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

Forget the canned sauce and try these homemade sloppy joes! There’s something satisfying about the sweetness and messiness of these sandwiches!  This recipe is sweet, tangy, zesty and savory, with the perfect texture and consistency. Truly the best version of a childhood favorite!

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef

  • 1/4 cup chopped onion

  • 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper

  • 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard

  • 1 TBSN tomato paste

  • 3/4 cup ketchup

  • 3 teaspoons brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

  • 2 teaspoon garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • salt to taste

  • ground black pepper to taste

  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted

1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, garlic, and green pepper.

2. Use a colander to drain fat and liquids.

3. Stir in the mustard, ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly.
 

4. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes until mixture has thickened to your liking. Season as preferred with salt and pepper.

5. Remove from heat and serve over toasted buns.
