Before you handle any food, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Clean your kitchen work area and pull back your hair or wear a cap. You want to avoid contaminating your meal with harmful bacteria that could cause food illness.
To make the Classic MANburger: 1. Preheat oven to 425° F.Wash and prepare toppings: Slice purple onions, cut leaf lettuce, slice tomato. Place toppings in fridge to keep cool until ready to serve. Line baking pan with foil.
2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, cheese, BBQ sauce, egg, dry marinade mix, basil, oregano.
3. Form beef mixture into 4 balls. Flatten and slightly mold into bowl-shaped patties on ungreased baking pan lined with foil. Each patty should be about an inch thick and four inches in diameter. To form perfect patties, check out our DIY Perfect Burger Patty Maker post.
4. Brush top of patty with melted butter.Do not salt patties. Salt draws out the moisture and will dry out your patties. Do not want to freeze patties.
5. Bake patties on top rack uncovered. Estimated times for preferred cooking temperature- The timing will vary to get the correct internal temperature. Monitor internal temperature of each patty using a meat thermometer to confirm:
* 16 min Medium-Rare (pink & warm) 130 ° F. Flip and brush with butter after 8 min
* 18 min Medium (pink center) 140 ° F Flip and brush with butter after 9 min
* 20 min Medium-Well (slightly pink center) 150° F
Flip and brush with butter after 10 min
* 22 min Well Done (cooked center) 160 ° F Flip and brush with butter after 11 min
6. Within each bun stack so to put hot burger in middle between onion slices and cheese. Stack the lettuce, onion, burger, cheese (so it slightly melts), pickles, tomato. Add your sauce of preference- ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc. Serve.

My recommendation is using buffalo meat (more commonly referred to as bison meat). Bison meat is one of the leanest, most nutritious meats available, and makes fantastic MANburgers. Because most meat bison are raised on open ranches and fed grass, the meat contains fewer artificial antibiotics, hormones and steroids than beef and other more common meats. A bison burger contains about 146 calories, making it a very low calorie and low fat meat. A similar serving of 90 % lean beef contains about 176 calories. The protein content is slightly higher, with 20.23 grams in a serving of bison, compared to a serving of 90% lean beef, with 20 grams.Using ground turkey to reduce calorie content is a myth. You won't lose calories by using ground turkey. In fact there are more calories in turkey than beef.
A spicier wine with more robust flavor to stand up to the toppings. Malbec, Zinfandel, and Côtes du Rhone. Honestly, it tastes best with an ice cold beer!
Side Dish pairing: Beer Soaked Rosemary Potato Wedges, Southern Beer Boiled Peanuts. If you prefer to grill, refrigerate the patties before grilling and heat your grill at 450 degrees F and cook each side for 5-7 minutes. Again, I prefer to cook in the oven, as soft meat falls between grates. And the patties come out moist. Cooks best in oven. Grills cook unevenly and often burn edges, some patties cook faster than others. You will often get that flame spurts because the fat from the burger will increase the heat and burn areas of the meat. So if you can live without the grill lines in your burger, this is a great option that will prevent drying out the meat or having them cook unevenly. Burgers must be moist, hot, flavorful, and cooked to the ideal temperature.
Vegan and vegetarian alternatives: Replace burger meat using large Portabello mushroom caps. Marinate large Portabello mushroom caps in vegetable stock for 24 hours. Bake them for only 20 minutes, 10 min each side.
Use vegan-friendly hamburger buns or rolls that don't contain eggs or dairy.
Use a vegan cheese alternative that you enjoy that is free of dairy and animal enzymes.
If using Portabello mushrooms, there is no need to use eggs or Worcestershire sauce, as they are not vegan-friendly. Don’t forget to top it with your favorite sauce or maybe an organic tomato ketchup.
KICK OUT THE GLUTS and make this gluten free: Use gluten-free buns or sandwich bread available at your local supermarket, or simply lose the bun altogether and chop this up into a MANburger Bowl, this is also a great way to reduce the amount of carbs. Be sure to use grain-fed beef which is gluten free.
Use cheeses which are gluten free, like Cheddar, Swiss, Parmesan, Provolone, Bleu Cheese, and Mozzarella. Avoid processed cheeses (like processed American cheeses). Believe it or not, Velveeta is a gluten free food, so that is another great cheese option.
Be sure to check the labels of your sauces to ensure they are gluten-free. Avoid any that list "wheat" or "barley" in their ingredients. If a product does not have an ingredient statement, it is a pure spice or herb with nothing added and contains no added glutens. Worcestershire sauce is also gluten free.
Reduce/Lower the sugar: Use sauces and marinade mixes that contain no added sugars.
Lower the calories: Use ground round, ground sirloin, or extra lean ground beef which will shave about 50-60 calories off using the ground chuck.
Lessen the amount of calories and fat, follow the Portobello mushroom version.
Instead of using cheese in the burger meat, you could substitute bread crumbs or cooked brown rice.
Pump up the protein: Double up on your meat, increase the cheese, or simply make your patties larger.
